Why we exist
We know that we are providing a service that is so desperately needed in the locality. This is evident in not only the number of referrals that we receive but also what our partners are telling us. There is a shortage of free/low cost counselling support which means existing services are overstretched and have long waiting times.
Not only is this deeply distressing for those involved but in the absence of meaningful support, it often means that individuals continue to struggle with their mental health for much longer than they need to.
What We Do
The Olive Trust seeks to re-address this by providing free/low cost counselling and psychotherapy to the residents of LLR. We do not operate an exclusion criteria and instead assess each client on a case by case basis.
This entails a thorough initial assessment where an understanding of presentation and need is understood. Where a client is considered to have ‘complex needs’ they are likely to be offered long term support with our more experienced therapists.
Why We need Your Help
We currently receive around 50% of our referrals from other agencies. These are from voluntary sector organisations in LLR such as The Red Cross, Womens Aid, Shelter Housing Advice, New Dawn New Day and Living Without Abuse. As such, our client group are mostly homeless individuals/families who are either homeless, living in insecure accommodation or fleeing an abusive home.
We are therefore appealing for your direct assistance to help The Olive Trust address this by providing funded counselling and psychotherapy services to the residents of Leicester and Leicestershire that need it the most.
Taking into account, each counselling session costs approximately £50, a regular monthly donation from you allows us to plan ahead and continue to keep this valuable service alive.
